There's so much to see Dave but I'd highly recommend going to Belfast and doing The Long Kesh prison tour. Long Kesh was an infamous British prison in Ireland that held hundreds of IRA and Loyalist prisoners. It is closed now but open for prison tours. I'd also recommend walking along The Falls Road in West Belfast and seeing the Republican murals and visiting Miltown Cemetry which contains the graves of many Irish Republicans.
If you're in Dublin try and visit Kilmainam Gaol. This is now a museum and has fantastic prison tours telling you the history of the prison especially of when the British were occupying the whole of Ireland and executed many Irish Republicans there.
